This month we decided to take our voice to the next level and bring a petition to the national stage. We refuse to give children trash bags to move their personal belongings in. Our petition is for the whole state of Connecticut to recognize the issue and pledge to give the children duffle bags and suitcases instead of trash bags. Connecticut Department of Children and Families has a wonderful program but we want to remind them that it is in the details in which we can make a difference. A small change can create a lifetime of difference in a child’s life.
With the help of our amazing supporters, Sixto Cancel, and Do Something we were able to get over 10,000 signatures in just 4 days. This is a staggering amount of support in just a short time. We are overwhelmed and empowered by the support we received for the petition and optimistic about what changes this will bring to America’s Foster Care system.
In the next week, we will be traveling to Connecticut to hand-deliver the petition signed to the Connecticut Department of Children and Families. Then we’ll urge the foster agency in each and every state to provide their kids with duffel bags, too. We are excited about this movement to change the Foster Care system in America. We urge you to continue to voice your opinion that foster children deserve duffle bags, not trash bags when moving homes.
If you’re looking to help us trash the trash bags, feel free to take a look at our Sweet Cases program! https://www.togetherwerise.org/team-building/sweet-cases/
