The pandemic is still lurking, school is very different, work is very different. All of the ways you used to refresh are limited. So how do you practice self-care as a parent? Here are our top 7 self-care tips for parents and all people a like.
1. Create Boundaries
The first and most important self-care tip for parents is to create healthy and safe boundaries. Establish clear boundaries with your work, children, and partner.
You need time to recharge and refresh without others. Let people know when they are not respecting your boundaries.
2. Solidify a Schedule
Keeping a calendar is a great way to save time and reduce stress. This way you are prepared for what is coming and don’t need to worry about surprises.
3. Tech Break
We are endlessly in need of this. Taking a tech break is a great way to stay present and to focus on what you can control… yourself.
Even if you can’t fully step away from technology, creating tech-free space and times are healthy alternatives.
4. Be a Better Friend
Yes, we are spending tons of time with those we live with. Now try and be a better friend to the people you like outside of your home. Plan some zoom dates, or just pick up the phone and connect with your support system.
5. Add a Little Exercise
So maybe you have been staying active. But for those who haven’t, any form of exercise is great self-care for parents. Even if it is just some yoga in the morning. Take this time for yourself and for connecting with your body.
6. Fuel Your Body Right
Food is really powerful, it replenishes your mind and body. Make time to prepare and shop, really make a conscious effort to feed yourself the things that your body needs to be strong and feel rested.
7. Be Kind to Yourself
Self-care is harder as a parent. You have so many people who are counting on you. Don’t feel guilty if you can’t do it all. Be kind to yourself and remember that you are human and you are doing the best you can today.
