Growing A Family
Starting a family is a huge decision and it can be accomplished through a number of ways. Paige D’arpini and her husband decided they wanted to start a family. Unfortunately, they had fertility issues but they didn’t let that stop them because they decided that they wanted to adopt anyway. In 2013 they became licensed foster parents and began their journey.
Foster Journey
Paige and her husband received both children at a very young age. Joy’s placement, their daughter, happened at only 3 months. Their son, Gabe, had his placement at only 5 days old. They stayed in contact with Gabe’s parents. Paige saw that they still loved their son but they just couldn’t care for him. They didn’t have a support system to help them get through the situation. Getting to know Paige and her husband gave Gabe’s bio parents a sense of relief because they knew that Gabe deserved the safety and security they could give him.
The Long Journey to Adoption
For the family, the adoption process took a while for both children. They officially adopted Joy on November 18, 2016 after 2 years of going through the process. They adopted Gabe on November 3, 2019 after 2 ½ years.
Now the couple had to get adjusted to the life of being parents. They learned to care for their new family. They also learned to appreciate what they had and could provide for their children. Their exposure to the tough situation Gabe’s parents humbled them and inspired them to give their children a better life.
For Those With Fertility Struggles Turning To Adoption
One piece of advice Paige has for new foster parents is to be involved in the case and fight for the kids. Those in the process of trying to adopt need to fight for whatever is best for the children. Sometimes maintaining a relationship with the bio parents can be a healthy option. You just have to prepare yourself if the day comes when your child wants to know about their bio parents.
