Foster Youth Benefits: Social Security
Foster families today have access to many resources that help cover the costs of raising a child. These benefits can vary by state and county. They are meant to support both the child and the family. Services like medical care, dental care, and counseling are usually a top priority. But if a child has special needs, extra support may be needed.
Foster parents of children with disabilities may be able to get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) from the Social Security Administration (SSA). This help can give families the extra money they need to care for their child. SSI is available to people of all ages, but families who need it most are given priority.
Once a family receives SSI benefits, they can use the money to pay for the best care for their child. This might include medical treatments, therapy, or other special services. SSI is an important tool for families who need extra help to support a child with disabilities.
