The call of the wild is strong this week, as we send a flock of foster children to hang out with the cast of A&E’s Duck Dynasty. Nonprofits for children Foster Love – Together We Rise sponsored 10 foster children to attend this event in addition to 40 other foster children from the Mississippi area.
The network’s most-watched series, Duck Dynasty, is a reality television show which follows the Robertson clan. Wealthy from their duck-call making business, this Louisiana bayou family tries to stay true to their Southern roots while sporting flowy beards and camouflage.
Hosted by Homes of Hope for Children, the event will take place on Saturday, July 20 in Purvis, Mississippi. Willie, Miss Kay, Korie, Sadie, and John Luke Robertson will mingle with fans and speak about their family and business. Tickets ($30-40) include hors d’oeuvres, a 70-minute talk and raffle tickets for a chance to win photos with the cast following the presentation.
Funds collected will help provide housing for underprivileged youth with an emphasis on teaching family values and self-sufficiency. Each of Home for Hope’s two houses has a house parent and counselors who help create a safe atmosphere; they help children learn responsibility and healthy relationship skills. There are also transitional apartments for program graduates to encourage their continued success. These efforts mirror our own to ensure loving homes for children in foster care everywhere.
