If You Like Christian Bale’s Together California, Here Are More Foster Care Villages in Other States

Christian Bale recently began his project Together California, one of many foster care villages in the U.S. designed to keep siblings together while offering a stable, healing environment. This 12-home development will provide housing and support services to some of California’s most vulnerable youth in an effort to keep siblings in foster care together.

But California isn’t the only place where people are rethinking how to care for foster children. Across the country, others have launched similar foster village models focused on community, healing, and long-term outcomes.

Here are other villages leading the way:

New Vision Village – Philippi, West Virginia

New Vision Village is being developed to support young men aging out of the foster care system. The project will offer transitional housing in a community of small homes along with guidance in life skills, employment help, and emotional/spiritual support.

So far they have raised over 2.4 million in grants and donations for the project which secures funding for 16 of their planned homes. They eagerly anticipate 12 young men ages 18-25 to live there and be better prepared for the future ahead.

  • Led by: New Vision Renewable Energy and community advocates
  • Opening: In progress (announced 2023)
  • Who it helps: Young men aging out of the foster care system
  • Services: Transitional housing, life skills development, employment coaching, and spiritual support

Bridge Builder Community – Augusta, Georgia

A former park is being transformed into 25 320 square foot residential “tiny homes” in Georgia. The community will house foster youth aged 12-24 and will provide counseling and support that will aid with meals, schooling, and recreational activities.

Bridge Builder Communities says they “approach their work with empathy and understanding” and work with other organizations and supporters to amplify their collective efforts. So far, they have partnered with organizations like GoodWill, Chick Fil A, the Walton Foundation, the Boys & Girls Club of August, and recently held their Bridge Builders Gala last month which raised proceeds for the project.

Why These Villages Matter

Foster care villages are shelters that also create a vital resource: community. By combining housing with consistent support, therapy, mentorship, and job readiness, these projects help youth move beyond survival and toward stability.

Projects like Together California and these nationwide efforts show a growing belief that foster youth deserve more than temporary fixes. They deserve a permanent place to call home with structure, care, and opportunity.
