Vet Tech Scholarship Applications Now Open for 2025
Foster Love is excited to announce that applications for the 2025 American Industries Vet Tech Scholarship are open! The scholarship is proudly sponsored by Charles River Laboratories and the Milligan Family Foundation, providing an exciting opportunity for current and former foster youth to launch their careers in veterinary technology.
Who Can Apply for the Scholarship?
To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:
- Be between the ages of 18 and 25 during the application year.
- Be a citizen of the U.S.
- Have been accepted into an accredited 2-year public or nonprofit college or vocational school with plans to enroll full-time.
- Have successfully completed high school or obtained a GED during the application year.
- Either:
- Have resided in public or private foster care in the U.S. for a continuous 12 months up to and including your 18th birthday.
- Have experienced orphanhood for at least 1 year by your 18th birthday.
- Be pursuing a major in a field related to veterinary studies, with aspirations to become a veterinarian or a veterinary technician.

Recipients of the scholarship also receive personal and professional mentoring to support their academic journey, and career development opportunities to help them network and propel their professional careers forward.
How to Apply
Head to the American Industries Vet Tech Scholarship page, and submit the application form available there. We encourage all eligible individuals to apply! The application will be open from September 16th – the end of December.

With over 75 years of expertise in accelerating medical and veterinary advancements, Charles River Laboratories is dedicated to supporting foster youth and their career development. They will also be assembling a selection committee to review the applications this year and select the final recipients!
The Scholarship’s Impact So Far
Over $240,000 has been granted to students pursuing veterinary technology trades, demonstrating significant aid for students across the country. Recipients of the Vet Tech Scholarship have an outstanding 95% competition rate and typically finish their certification in 18 months.

“I have been in foster care since I was thirteen years old. It was in the Fall of 2023 when I started my first semester with only 12 credit hours and no scholarships. Most of my first classes were Texas Success Initiatives (TSI) that I unfortunately did not pass. However, the scholarship helped me a lot. With it, I could purchase my textbooks and study programs such as Quizlet and Grammarly. I received a monthly allowance, which relieved my worries about meals or class materials and allowed me to focus entirely on my studies. As a result, I made it onto the Dean’s List for both the Fall and Spring semesters this year with a GPA of 3.71!” – Shante
