At Foster Love – Together We Rise we love traveling almost as much as we love improving the lives of children in foster care and volunteer with foster kids. Helping foster youth in different communities across the country is always a blast. We get to see the direct impact that our actions have on children all over the nation.
CIT invited us out to a charitable team-building event in Rye Brook, New York to help them build bikes for kids in foster care. We jumped at the chance! At their gigantic Bike Build event, CIT gathered around 100 volunteers and challenged them to assemble 150 bicycles by the end of the day.
The volunteers motivated to complete the bike build competed against each other. They wanted to see who could build bikes the fastest. Volunteers rewarded the quickest team with candy and the slowest team with power bars to speed things up.
It was amazing to watch them power through the daunting task motivated by their compassion. Each volunteer wrote an inspirational note to tie around the handlebar of a bike.
The volunteers had a blast trying to be the fastest. At the end of the day, they knew that what really mattered. What mattered was working together to improve the lives of children in foster care
After the event, all the bike donations went to Cardinal McCloskey Community Services in Valhalla, New York. They would go on to provide childhood memories to children who otherwise may have never had the chance to learn how to ride a bike.
