Give a Child in Foster Care New Clothes & New Confidence

Every child deserves to feel good in what they wear. But for many kids in foster care, that’s not the reality. When a child enters foster care, they often arrive with only the clothes on their back—and what follows is usually hand-me-downs and secondhand items that don’t fit, don’t match their style, and quietly remind them of everything they’ve lost.

For kids in care, getting new clothes is one of the few moments where they get to make a choice that restores something foster care so often takes away: identity.

Shopping Sprees give kids that moment.

How Foster Love Shopping Sprees Work

Each Shopping Spree pairs one foster youth with one volunteer for a private, one-on-one shopping trip. Together, they pick out brand-new clothes, shoes, accessories, and hygiene products, chosen entirely by the child, not for them.

It is a small window of time with an outsized effect. Kids walk out with new clothes and with a little more confidence, a little more dignity, and the rare experience of being asked, “What do you want?”

What a Difference a New Outfit Makes

Clothing is one of the simplest, most direct forms of self-expression. For kids who have spent years in hand-me-downs and secondhand items, getting something brand-new and self-chosen can be genuinely life-changing. They:

Build self-confidence – Kids feel proud walking into school in clothes they picked themselves.

Restore dignity – No more wearing whatever was available, even if it didn’t fit.

Create a rare moment of control – A real choice, in a life full of decisions that are made for them, out of their control.

Be A Personal Shopper With Us

Just Show Up, & Shop!

Here’s how it works: You are paired one-on-one with a child in foster care for an hour-long, private shopping experience at stores like H&M, Macy’s, Nike, and JD Sports.

You’ll walk the aisles with them, help them try things on, and let them decide what goes home with them.

For one afternoon, you get to be their personal cheerleader while they pick out clothes and shoes that reflect their style.

As a remote team scattered across different states, we needed holiday team building activities that could work virtually. The Holiday Box let us all participate in our local communities while staying connected as a team, and it really created a connection with our remote members.
