A cake with your name on it, gifts you’ve been wanting all year, and all your family and friends there to share memories with. For children in foster care, that special day often passes like any other. Children often spend an average of two to three birthdays in the system. Between frequent placement changes, the chaos of court dates and caseworker transitions, and the everyday strain of a system stretched too thin, birthdays get missed. For children in a busy system who are already wondering if they matter to anyone, a forgotten birthday hurts more than most people realize.

This is a hands-on volunteer experience where your group decorates and assembles boxes packed with everything a child in foster care needs to have a real birthday celebration: party supplies, a gift card, and cake candles. Then our team helps you donate them to local foster care agencies and child welfare organizations where they reach children who need them most. Participants practice problem-solving skills, improve their communication skills, and fulfill corporate social responsibilities, all while knowing they’re doing something amazing for their community.
