3 Fun Family Movies About Kids in Foster Care Streaming Now
1. Despicable Me
The first fun family movie about kids in foster care is the 2010 animated film Despicable Me. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is a heartwarming story about an evil supervillain genius Gru, voiced by Steve Carell. He hatches a plot to steal the moon while trying to leverage the help of three sisters he meets at a group home.
This is a great feel-good movie that is appropriate for everyone in your family. We almost forgot to mention the army of overall-wearing, yellow minions. Despicable Me is currently streaming on Netflix.
2. It Takes Two
This is a 90’s throwback lead by the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley. The movie starts with a group home going to summer camp. There Amanda (Mary-Kate Olsen) runs into a rich girl Alyssa (Ashley Olsen) and they look identical. Alyssa and Amanda devise a plot to get rid of Alyssa’s father’s gold-digging fiance by switching places. Obviously, this ruse can’t last forever!
It Takes Two is a sweet film that is a little cheesy but works for everyone. You can watch it on Netflix.
3. Instant Family
Foster Love – Together We Rise LOVES Instant Family! We were invited by the writer and director Sean Anders to see a screening of the film at the Warner Bros lot before it’s release.
Instant Family was inspired by Anders’ experience with adoption through foster care. The story is about a couple (Mark Wahlberg and Rose Bryne) who decide to become foster parents. They are soon are launched into the world of foster care.
It is the closest fictional example of foster care that we have seen. The narrative is very familiar for those who have gone through the process of adopting through foster care. It is very honest. The film is PG-13 and currently streaming on HULU.
